H. 'Dixie Chick'

They're kinda tough to see in this shot, but they're in the back of the left hand container. They're soaking in rainwater on July 24th, after making the journey from Ottawa. What I received yielded 3 plants! This trade was sure a good way of enabling 2 Hostaphiliacs!

One of the three divisions is putting on a real growth spurt. There are another FIVE shoots popping up around the base of it. They've been potted up for a little over two weeks now and must be settling down. Talk about vigour! And one of the other two is showing two new offsets, and the last one has one trying to see the light of day, way to go!

Two weeks later the one with the additional two offsets is coming along just fine, don't you think?

It's interesting to note that all the new growth shows quite a bit more of a white margin than the first flush of leaves. And there's also a certain amount of red speckles on the lower parts of the petioles....

It's kinda hard of course to try and determine which of the three divisions this one is, but, it's coming along nicely March 22nd '08.

Hosta 'Dixie Chick'Here's one of them by the middle of June '08, filled out quite nicely and starting to send up flower scapes.

While I don't have any uptodate pictures of it, by early August there is nice growth on both divisions. So much so in fact that I further divided one of the plants to accomodate a trade and ended up with a total of 3 divisions from it.

We had two good-sized divisions to see us through 2009, both flowered and both produced a good number of new offsets. Come spring 2010 one will get divided and the other I'll most likely end up finding a spot for in the garden somewhere. It'll quickly fill in to form a decent border with a select few other smaller Hosta varieties.

There is more information on this variety in Hugo's Database..

Guestbook use seems to have fallen out of favour, so we have deleted it, but, if there's something you'd like to say, simply use the form on the contact page.
