H. 'Fragrant Bouquet'

Hosta of the Year This fragrant flowered cultivar was the Hosta of the Year -HOTY- for 1998, as selected by the American Hosta Growers Association. To receive this honor the plant must be readily available in the nursery trade for retail distribution and meet the criteria for pricing, which is around $15 in the year of selection.

Fragrant Bouquet is fragrant flowered Hosta #3 to be added in 2008. That now makes 7 different ones, pretty much across the whole spectrum: 3 different edge variegated ones in 'Fragrant Bouquet', 'Guacamole' -which is an FB sport- and 'So Sweet', a small blue one in 'Fragrant Blue', a large green in 'Royal Standard' and a small green with a wavy edge in 'Invincible' and of course a double flowered one in plantaginea 'Venus'. And you know that won't be the last of them either....

Update: the 'Royal Standard' proved to be HVX infected and has been destroyed. We did however end up with another edge-variegated fragrant flowered variety in 2009: 'Stained Glass', which was HOTY in 2006.

One of the divisions I took from the original one we purchased in 2008 was given a sunny home in 2009 and it looks quite different from what it would have been in the shade. Just compare it with the picture above and you'll notice the edge variegation has gone white and the leaf colour itself is also noticeably lighter than last year.

The darker leaves in this picture belong to a 'Fortunei Hyacinthina', one we dug out of the 'Hosta Nursery', it was getting way too crowded in there...

We ended up with a couple more plants of this cultivar in the spring when another Costco bag of Hostas had contents that didn't match the description, oh well...

Hugo's Database shows some more details on this cultivar.

Guestbook use seems to have fallen out of favour, so we have deleted it, but, if there's something you'd like to say, simply use the form on the contact page.
