H. 'Grand Tiara'

The container on the right has both Grand Tiara and Stiletto soaking up some rainwater prior to being potted up. These pictures were taken July 24th, 2007, the day the plants arrived here after their long journey from Ottawa.

'Grand Tiara' yielded two divisions, this being the larger one of the two. While perhaps not quite a perky as the 'Maui Buttercups', they're both settling down nicely and I cannot wait to see what next spring will bring.

It's March 24/08 and this is the same plant you see above. It's gone from being a single division to 4 offsets, great to see! The other division thus far only shows the single nose poking up, but hey, the season has barely begun, give it the summer to put on some new growth.

A few days later and we see not 4 but 6 shoots on this one, and the other is now showing 2, as a good a reason as any to hold off making further comments until such time as leaves are beginning to unfurl. Regardless of how many there will prove to be, there's no doubt it is vigorous, and that's good to see.

A lot can and does happen in 3 weeks this time of year. Ain't no doubt there's 6 shoots, as is rather evident in this shot. And witnessing how vigorous this cultivar is, also makes it a fairly simple decision that come late May further division will happen. We started off with 3 bare root divisions of 'Golden Tiara' back in 2003 and now 5 years later it is in many places in our yard, almost to a point where I wonder if we'll sell all the divisions we have in our plant sale. This member of the Tiara family looks to be right in the same vigour mold as 'Golden Tiara', 'Platinum Tiara' and 'Emerald Tiara'.

It's now the middle of June and it's making a great showing.

Early August I divided one of the two crowns of GT and one of them has a new offset that has this very wide variegation margin on the 2 leaves it has to this point. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of this next year.

There's no doubt this is a vigorous grower, as said before. For 2009 it is showing that again in profusion.

Just for fun, here in late July '09 are all the members of the Tiara family we have. We have, top right 'Golden Tiara', the longest lived member in our yard and found in many spots in the front, back and side yards, bottom right is 'Grand Tiara', now in its 3rd year in our yard and has been divided into several divisons, some of which are potted and some are in the side yard. Bottom left is 'Amber Tiara', a new addition for 2009 and still looking a bit scrawny, top left is 'Platinum Tiara' which is now into its 5th year in the yard, and finally in the center is 'Emerald Tiara', this one in its 2nd year.
