While I have no pictures from an earlier February date, by Feb 7th there certainly are plenty of the first signs of spring: the annual display of Snowdrops. These here are Galanthus elwesii, or Giant Snowdrop, always the first one up for us.

It's that time of year when you look desparately for signs of spring's impending arrival, however scant it is. As is the case with this root of Dicentra spectabilis on the 14th of February.

Just when your spirits are being lifted by the increasing evidence of spring not being that far off, you get a rude reminder that winter isn't over quite yet, like we got on the 26th.... Snowdrops covered in snow....
