H. 'Lakeside Down Sized'

No self-respecting Hostaholic can resist a sale, like the one I saw the July 4th/09 weekend at our neighbourhood 'boutique nursery'. All their seasonal stock was on sale and I had to show great restraint. This 'Lakeside Down Sized' however did come home with me, as did only one other Hosta, 'Red October'. As you can tell, this small pot was well-packed and will ended up getting quickly up-sized in pot to give the roots more room.

It got a new home the same afternoon I divided and transplanted my 'Red October', that would have been July 6th. As you can see, I resisted the temptation to divide. I felt it looks best as a nice tight clump.

Here we are, March 4th 2010, and look at how far along this little gem is. It's far enough along already for the variegation to have started to show. Talk about vigorous! In all fairness though, spring 2010 was unseasonably warm, causing most perennials to be anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks ahead compared to '09.
